For most people, Halloween is a time for candy and costume parties. For Potterheads, it's the one day – well, fine a full week – a year that you can pull off dressing up like your favorite Harry Potter character and not get weird looks from strangers on the street.

Now, you've probably already dressed as Harry, Ron, and/or Hermione for at least one Halloween celebration, so it's time to really up your fandom game. As a lifelong Potterhead and Seventeen's official HP expert, I am uniquely qualified to help you on this magical Halloween-related journey.

So, to help you pick out a killer DIY costume (and partially because I just really like falling into nerd wormholes) I sifted through a bunch of Halloween hashtags to find the most unique, obscure Harry Potter costume ideas only die-hard fans will get.

Ahead, epic costumes inspired by the best characters, Patronuses, fantastic beasts, ghosts from the movies and books.
