*Spoilers for Bird Box Barcelona below!*

Another day, another Netflix movie to obsess over. The latest release from the streamer is a follow-up to the 2018 thriller film that took over the Internet, Bird Box but this time, it takes place in a whole new location, but at the same time as the original. Bird Box Barcelona moves overseas to Spain when a mysterious force causes the world's population to drop significantly. A man named Sebastian attempts to survive the terror on his own before forming alliances with other survivors and forming a plan to escape the city. Like the movie starring Sandra Bullock, people must avert their gaze from the monster or they'll be affected by its deathly force. Because of this, the characters are blindfolded for most of the events that occur in each movie.

As you watch the flick on the edge of your seat, you may be wondering what the force actually is — is it a monster, or is something in the air? Much like the first Bird Box film, viewers have tried piecing together what the Bird Box Barcelona monster actually is. Ahead, find everything we know about the film and whether we get to see the monster that's wreaking havoc in the cinematic universe.

In the first Bird Box movie, the terrifying force that led people to their demise was never revealed on-screen. Although Bird Box Barcelona was written and directed by Álex and David Pastor, the new movie takes after its predecessor as the monster is never revealed. The heart-racing element of surprise is kept as the audience doesn't get to see the creature that has caused the world's population to plummet in the films.

In a 2018 interview, several cast and crew members revealed that a producer insisted on including the monster in the film. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, screenwriter Eric Heisserer also said the "snake-like" creature resembled a "long fat baby" and that it "completely ruined the tone of the movie". So much so, that director Susanne Bier cut the scene from the film during the editing process.

"It so easily becomes funny. We actually shot that and spent a lot of energy on it, but every time I saw it, I was like this is not going to be tense. It's just going to be funny," Bier told Bloody Disgusting. "At first, Sandy [Bullock] was like, 'I don't want to see it' because she thought it was scary. Then it was like, 'Don't show it to me because [I'll laugh].' Every time I did it, I was like, 'Sh*t, that's a different film.'"

The ending does remain open-ended, though, so there may be a chance that another Bird Box movie could reveal the mysterious monster.
